Pilot service · taking expressions of interest

Reviews for the performance, not only the page.

An audiobook is a second edition with a second author in it. The pacing changes, the humour changes, the characters acquire voices they never had on the page — and almost nobody writes about that in a form an author can quote.

What it would cover

A full listen, then an editorial review written to sit alongside the text review — treating the narration as a performance worth assessing on its own terms.

  • Narration: pacing, character differentiation, accent handling, breath and rhythm
  • Production: levels, room tone, edit points, retakes that show
  • Where the performance adds something the page could not
  • Three pull-quotes usable by both the author and the narrator
  • Kill Clause cover on the same terms as text reviews

Indicative price: R1 650, about US$92, for a title up to twelve listening hours. Not fixed until the pilot has run.

Why it is not on sale yet

I would rather build it with three authors than guess at it alone.

A twelve-hour listen is a serious commitment, and pricing it wrong helps nobody. So this tier opens only once enough authors want it to make the format worth fixing.

If it is something you would buy, say so — tell me the title, the length, and what you wish someone would write about the narration. Pilot places go out at a reduced rate to the first authors who put their hand up.

Tell me about the book.

No payment is taken until the brief is read, the word count is confirmed and the price is agreed in writing. If the book is not a fit, I will say so and point you somewhere better.
